Q: Have you ever labored for hours in front of the mirror, deciding on whether the shirt t
hat you have on makes you look too old, or if those pair of jeans make your thighs look too large?
For gay men, this seems to be an everyday occurrence. It does not matter if you are rushing off to work, or to a dinner date, debating on what to wear takes precious time way from your day. But by simply incorporating the following winter fashion staples into your wardrobe, your prep time will be cut in half, leaving more time to live, learn, work and play.
Tops & Tanks
If you are any kind of a self deserving gay male, you have a myriad of tight plain white, black and gray Ts. That’s all fun, but take a note from some of the Generation Z’s and invest in a novel graphic tee. Take a look at Old Navy’s selections of graphic designer tees; you have many designs to choose from where you can still let your true colors shine through while not blinding everyone that you pass.
If you live in a cooler climate, the fall and winter may cause you to want to add something a bit heartier to our closet. In past years, turtle and mock turtle necked tops had prevailed as being a safe alternative for mildly chilly times during the Fall and Winter. Not the case anymore. In past years, “hoodies” and sweater vests have taken the place of the necked sweaters.
This year plans to see a return of the vintage v-necked sweater in gay mens clothing. But don’t go rummaging through your father’s closet to find this fashion relict of the 1950′s. This year v-necked sweater has a much deeper plunging neckline as can be found with United Color of Benetton’s Jacquard wool cardigan.
Footin’ It

The perfect pair of shoes must do three jobs at one time. Not only must it be appropriate in any situation (casual, dress, play etc) it must also be able to bring your look together; the wrong causing your entire outfit to fall apart. Stick with the basic color of black, which has always been able to morph from office-wear to play wear faster than Superman’s in a long forgone telephone booth. The Heisman (style #61779) by Skechers calls to be this upcoming season’s symbiotic savior. It’s a leather upper in a slip on casual pho- design, creating a slick and cool appeal professional enough for the office. In addition, it’s overlays details on its side coupled with dual stitch, commonly seen on cycling shoes, give it that sporty appeal that we love to “sport” when we are at play.
Keeping Warm and Looking Good
With our mild summer, your outer wear may be wearing your over coat more days during this upcoming Fall/Winter season. Keeping that in mind, an over coat that does just as well during the hours of 9am to 5pm as it would during your after-hours shindig is paramount. Adam Kimmel has fashioned a piece of outerwear which en-capsules a cashmere cardigan with a rough and tumble prĂȘt-a-porter thick canvas shell.
Just by adding these few must-haves to your chifferobe will not guarantee that your days and nights will go as gayly as you are, but it will definitely get you out the door much faster.
